What Leawood residents should know
Menorah Medical Center at 5721 W 119th St titles its ER "Emergency room in Overland Park/Leawood, KS." It runs a 24/7 ER and belongs to HCA Midwest Health. The University of Kansas Hospital's Indian Creek Campus at 10710 Nall Ave, ZIP 66211, offers surgery, inpatient care and The Women's Cancer Center. Saint Luke's South Hospital on Metcalf Avenue is part of Saint Luke's Health System, which joined BJC Health System on January 1, 2024.
Here is the Leawood twist. Medicare plans are priced by county, so you shop Johnson County, KS plans, not Jackson County, MO plans. But your doctors may practice in Missouri, at places like the Kansas City VA Medical Center or Saint Luke's Plaza. Some Advantage networks cross the state line and some do not. Check every doctor by name. A Medicare Supplement avoids the question, since Plan G and Plan N work with any provider in either state who accepts Medicare.
Moving from Missouri? Missouri has an anniversary rule: someone who ends a Medigap policy within 30 days of its anniversary can buy the same plan letter from any insurer without health questions. Kansas has no such rule, and no birthday rule either. Once you live in Leawood, changing Supplements usually means medical underwriting, so compare carefully before you move or switch.
