Medicare in Prairie Village
What Prairie Village residents should know
Prairie Village dates to the Prairie Village Shopping Center in 1947 and Corinth Square in 1955, and the city has no hospital of its own. AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Merriam is the closest full hospital to many homes. Veterans use the Overland Park VA Clinic at 10500 Mastin St or the Kansas City VA Medical Center on Linwood Boulevard in Missouri, which runs a 24-hour ER.
Because so much care sits outside town, list every doctor before you compare plans. Johnson County, KS plans differ from the Jackson County, MO plans across State Line Road, even though many Prairie Village residents see Missouri doctors. A Medicare Advantage network may include your Kansas doctors and not your Missouri ones. A Medicare Supplement works with any provider who accepts Medicare in either state, for a higher monthly premium plus a Part D plan.
Under 65 and on Medicare because of a disability? Kansas law (K.S.A. 40-2221) gives you a 6-month guaranteed-issue window for a Medigap policy after you enroll in Part B. Insurers must offer you every plan type they sell to people 65 and older, and they cannot charge you more than their age-65 rate.
The Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse at 9101 Nall Ave hosts JCPRD 50 Plus programs ((913) 826-2975). RideKC charges a $1 reduced fare for riders 65+ and Medicare card holders since June 1, 2026. Call 913-362-3500 for RideKC Freedom or RideJoCo Microtransit, or 913-715-8900 for Catch-a-Ride. SHICK offers free counseling at 1-800-860-5260.
Call us for a free plan review. We check your doctors on both sides of the state line, your prescriptions and your budget against the plans we offer in Prairie Village. Annual Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7.
Next steps: compare Medicare Advantage with Medicare Supplement plans, check your Part D drug costs, or map your turning-65 timeline.
